Hydrogen is safe when handled correctly. It is not explosive, oxidizing or self-igniting, but it can form explosive mixtures with air.
For the safe handling of hydrogen, the ISO guidelines for safe handling and storage of hydrogen and the safety requirements for hydrogen refueling stations must be observed.
Nevertheless, hydrogen is safer in case of a fire than e.g. gasoline as it is highly volatile and flares upwards unlike petrol-based liquid fuels. It does not spatter on impact and also does not accumulate on the ground.
The technical challenges of storing hydrogen are solved and in commercial use. smart hydrogen solutions GmbH installs all state-of-the-art safety devices to make malfunctions very unlikely and to minimize any diffusion losses with the use of modern materials.
